Rights Respecting School
At The Willows Primary School, we are committed to placing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of our core values and ethos; believing children’s participation is integral to all aspects of school life. The result is a raised sense of security and self-confidence which allows them to take the next step in advocating the rights of children everywhere.

Multiplication tables check (MTC):
The current year 4 cohort will be the first year-group to complete the new ‘MTC’; the following information is taken from the Government’s National Curriculum website:
The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided. Teachers will have the flexibility to administer the check to individual pupils, small groups or a whole class at the same time. Due to this, year four will be taking various challenges and quizzes related to speed and proficient multiplication skills. You can help you child be practicing their times-tables at home.
Topic
Our topics this year our Natural disasters, vikings, local enterprise and the Romans.
Uniform
Children are expected to wear full uniform at all times. If you are unsure of details of the full uniform there is now a uniform display in the school reception. It is important that children wear a coat to school everyday.
P.E.
Along with swimming, year 4 will still have a PE session each week. Both classes have P.E. on a Wednesday. This term we continue to work with Sports-point and the focus of the sessions is athletics skills moving on to dance and gymnastics.
Swimming
Year 4 will continue with their weekly swimming lessons on Monday morning - neither session will impact on the start or finish time of your child. Please ensure your child being a towel and suitable swimwear with them on these days.
Reading
Reading records are checked daily so please ensure you child has their current levelled reading book and reading record with them every morning. Reading is very important to your child’s development. If your child completes enough weekly reads, they will be entered into a draw to potentially win a prize!
Spelling
We continue weekly spelling tests. Every Friday, each child will be given spellings taken from the National Curriculum list of expected words that should be learned during year 4. The tests will be taken on Fridays and revised on Mondays. The children will have a sheet to practice on at home.
