History
At The Willows we recognise that History is all around us. Our History curriculum ignites children’s curiosity about their local area, Britain in the
past and the wider world. It teaches them to analyse sources, challenge stereotypes and consider other perspectives. At The Willows we are so lucky to be part of the community of Wythenshawe, steeped in such a rich history. We have tailored our curriculum to ensure that aspects of national history are reflected in our locality, with historical sites on our doorstep such as Wythenshawe Hall and Quarry Bank Mill. Our history curriculum aims to enable our children to thrIve in both the diverse community in which they live and the wider world. At The Willows the National Curriculum informs our practice.

Our History curriculum has been extended to explore modern day historical periods to enable our children to develop an understanding of the impact significant events may have on their lives. It helps us to create and deliver a broad and rich curriculum which empowers our learners to ask questions, gather evidence and form their own opinions. |
This helps them to build a wellrounded understanding of the present by engaging with and questioning the past. Teachers target questions and recap prior learning at the start of each session to help ensure information is transferred to long term memory. |
