History

At The Willows, history comes alive as our children embark on exciting journeys through time, exploring stories that shape our world. Children begin by learning specific topics that spark curiosity about themselves and the wider world. They then build on this with topics that encourage children to explore change and community in familiar contexts. Once in KS1, they continue their historical journey digging deeper in to the past and connecting history with wider events. The topics are carefully selected and planned to enable children to see how societies evolve and transform. Throughout their time at our school, children develop key historical skills - asking questions, examining evidence, and understanding chronology - building confidence to think critically about the past and its impact on today.

History supports wider learning and values, encouraging respect, empathy, and a strong sense of community as children explore diverse perspectives and the experiences of others.
