Key Stage 1

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

In Year 1, our children make the important transition from the Early Years into Key Stage 1, where they begin following the National Curriculum for the first time. During this exciting stage, they continue to work hard as they build on their early learning experiences and develop greater independence in their learning. There is a strong emphasis on phonics and preparation for the Phonics Screening in the summer term, helping children to become confident and fluent readers. Alongside this, they enjoy a wide range of fun, engaging, and hands-on learning opportunities across the curriculum. Through practical activities, exploration, and creativity, they deepen their understanding and grow in confidence as enthusiastic and curious learners.

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Our Year 2 children are growing in confidence and independence as they continue to build on their phonics knowledge and develop a love of reading and learning. This is an exciting and important year, as it is their final year in Key Stage 1 and they prepare for their next big step into Key Stage 2. Through a broad and creative curriculum, the children take part in engaging lessons that challenge and inspire them every day. They study an exciting topic called Wonder Wythenshawe, which includes an incredible trip to the Aero Zone at the airport!
