PHSE

At The Willows Primary School, our PSHE curriculum enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society.

Our PSHE curriculum has a strong emphasis on developing strong emotional literacy skills. Nurturing our children’s mental and physical health is a key priority and we are fortunate to have Place 2 Be based in our school, providing mental health support through one to one and group counselling sessions, which are led by trained councillors. Bespoke interventions are also delivered based on the needs of individual or groups of children.

We strongly believe our children should have a secure understanding of the diverse world around them and ever changing society in which they live to enable them to play a positive role in contributing to their school and wider community.

Our PSHE curriculum is built around the National Curriculum and is further enhanced through the use of Jigsaw. Jigsaw offers a comprehensive programme for PSHE and is taught at The Willows from Nursery to Year 6. It is a spiral progressive scheme of work which provides our children with relevant learning experiences to help them make informed decisions about their own lives and the impact of their choices on others. PSHE lessons take place on a weekly basis and are taught by class teachers as they have an established relationship with the children and, therefore, sensitive issues can be managed appropriately.
