Foundation Sports Day

Summer 2009 saw our Foundation children take part in a fantastic sports day event which included sack races, egg and spoon and lots of competition between staff andGetting ready for the Olympic games parent/carers.  Our parent/carers as usual gave us lots of support and were as enthusiastic as the children.....very competitive too.

Fire EngineHealthy Schools Week started with a 'Safety Talk' from the Fire Brigade all about Bonfire Night and personal safety.  The School Nurse talked to the children about personal hygiene and brought a fantastic machine in Germ Machineschool which shows all of the germs under ultra violet light.   Freddy Fit came in and did lots of workouts with the children and we had a competition which encouraged the children to walk to school.  Wash Your Hands PosterWe invited parents into school to help the children make fruit kebabs and take part in healthy eating.  A theatre group came in and performed a show all about being healthy.  The children all took part and enjoyed themselves so much.  Being healthy is fun!  Mrs Blades and Miss Neild organised an eight mile bike ride to raise money for charity.  Parents/carers, children and staff all took part.

Sports Day 2008

To celebrate 'Sports Day' at The Willows we dedicated our day to the Beijing Olympics.  We had 14 stations and 14 teams taking part in 14 events.  Each station represented a country.  The countries were Greece, Jamaica, Germany, Spain, Britain, Australia, India, Poland, America, Italy, China, France, Mexico and Africa.  For every station we had food tasting for each country.  Some of the food included Jerk Chicken, Tortillas, Prawn Crackers, Humus and lots more.  The children went around each station and took part in each event.  Some of the events included a bouncy castle, throwing bean bags through hoola hoops, long jump, egg and spoon race and lots more.  After each activity the children tasted the food and talked about the countries.  The day was a great success.

Sports Day

In school we encourage the children to take part in physical activity and develop their knowledge andVisitors understanding by helping them to:
  • acquire and develop skills
  • select and apply skills tactics and compositional ideas
  • evaluate and improve their performance
  • develop their knowledge and understanding of fitness and health
Pupils face up to different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams
  • applying rules

  • fostering positive attitudes

  • encouraging fair play

  • promoting honest competition and good sporting behaviourAward Ceremony

  • adhering to safe practices

By integrating work on sports day into the classroom children can fulfil other requirements of the curriculum and  P.E. can be linked to lots of fun things.  Children can look at the Olympic games or the World Cup or even the teams in the Harry Potter movies.  The theme of sports day can also be applied to opening and closing ceremonies, news reporting etc.  LEARNING P.E. IS SO MUCH FUN AT THE WILLOWS
